Birches Head Academy launched an Excellence Academy in September 2015, offering greater learning opportunities and unique experiences to Year 11 students. This programme has now developed further and opportunities are available to Year 7 and 8 students this academic year. The Excellence Academy supports high achieving students and those who wish to push themselves beyond the usual school curriculum, and fosters students to aspire to university from an early age. Furthermore, we work closely with national universities to create a high quality learning experience. As part of the Excellence Academy, students study after school, one day a week. The students study a range of topics that are supported by experts in each of the fields. The topics that the students study range from forensic Science, digital dissection and how texting has harmed the English language. All students carry out hands-on activities as well as visiting Universities to see the topics in action. The Excellence Academy is fully funded therefore all trips and activities are covered, however students are required to exhibit the following qualities:
- Love of learning
- Commitment to excellence and high standards
- Aspire and drive to be more
- A willingness to be involved in extracurricular activities
- High achievement at the end of Key Stage 2
The Excellence Academy runs every Wednesday from 14:40 until 15:40. If you require any further information regarding the Excellence Academy, please contact Mr Rob Jenkins-Assistant Headteacher, e-mail ‘email@example.com’ or contact the school on 01782 233 595.
