The idea of the whole-school read is that once a week, I will send out a short story, poem, article or book extract that will be read by everyone in the school during that week – staff, students (Y7-11) and parents alike. As everyone will be reading the same thing at the same time, the hope is that much discussion and debate can be sparked between us all – Did you enjoy this week’s choice? How did it make you feel? Would you like to read more by this author? etc.
The next installment is:
‘Water Bugs and Dragonflies’ by Doris Stickney. This is a story I have come across a few times in my previous role as a children’s librarian, and it is quite often used as a way to gently explain the concept of loss to young children. Having said that, I’ve included it in the whole-school read because I think it is a heart-warming tale for any age group, and I felt compelled to share it.
Have a lovely weekend
