Birches Head has received two prestigious awards: the Quality Mark for Secondary Schools and the QiSS, Quality in Study Support Accreditation.
The Quality Mark shows that our school 'provides a framework for self-evaluation and continuous improvement of the basic skills of all the students in the school'. For us this means everyone is working together and really hard, to make sure all our learners develop the good communication, literacy and numeracy skills needed to do well at school and in adult life.
Birches Head gained not only the 'emerged' but also 'established' QiSS status for the quality of its student support after the scrutiny of a portfolio of evidence and presentation to a panel of assessors. This includes all the out of hours activities that Mr Smith organises and the enhanced learning opportunities in and out of school as well as the fact that we work with over a hundred outside partners and agencies.
To gain both these awards is unique; we are the only high school in the area to achieve this.
