Birches Head Academy

SEND Information

The department is made up of a professional, approachable and dedicated team who are committed to working hard to remove barriers to learning to allow all SEN/D students to achieve their very best.  SEN/D staff provide support in lessons and targeted interventions in Literacy, Numeracy and Motor skills in small groups using specific programmes and technology to help students take small steps and make learning engaging.

We have a fabulous purpose-built SEN/D area with a central breakout zone furnished with comfortable seating and containing books and games where we run a lunchtime club for students. A number of smaller classrooms are attached to this for group work.

We pride ourselves on creating a warm and friendly atmosphere for the SEN/D students we support as well as helping them to be the best that they can be.

If you would like to have a chat about what SEN/D can offer; more information; or to arrange to visit the department please contact either Ms Jane Procter (SENCO) or Mr Lee Colclough (Assistant SENCO) at the school.

Thursday 2nd April

Birches Head Academy will be joining the new national scheme for issuing free school meal e-gift cards whilst we are closed. For those who qualify, we will contact you and send your e-gift card by e-mail or we may ask you to collect from school as part of your daily exercise. This will commence next week as we see it as vital that we continue to support you over the Easter break. Vouchers will continue each week to the value of £15 per child.

We wish you a happy Easter.

The main office is closed from Friday 3rd April at 3pm until Monday 20th April at 8am. During the Easter period, we will be regularly monitoring emails but there will be a delay in dealing with any requests.

If you are having difficulty with the Free School Meal voucher code, we will forward your query and it will be dealt with as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience whilst we navigate this new system.

In accordance with Government guidance, the Academy will be open to the children of Key Workers only over the Easter period. Spaces allocated by request.

Thank you for your continued support in these challenging times.
